There are a number of factors that the credit card companies use to determine if they want to accept you for their credit card and extend you credit. Credit is basically trust. The company is trusting you based off of your history to pay them what you woe. The reason there has to be trust is that they will allow you to use their card and name to buy things without doing anything but signing your name. If you choose not to pay then they will have to fight to get paid.

A credit card company will look at your age, how much money you make and then come the credit score. Right now there is a score that the main credit companies have attached to your name that states how reliable you are at paying your bills. If you have a history of paying your bills in the right amounts and on time then you score will be higher than if you never paid you credit card bills or anything else. This is an important number to protect since it can make or break lots of situations.
